Green Garden Art: Save Your Old Shovels and Rakes From The Landfill
Creative idea
When cleaning out my garage I found dozens of old tools I never used anymore. Solution? Reuse them as garden art.
Using Freecycle, I found free mirrors in my local community from people who wanted to get rid of them without cluttering the landfill. Then, with my newly created garden art, I mixed it up on the back wall of my garden.
Voila!
Here is what you will need:
- Primer
- Paint
- Tape
- Tape off the area you do not want painted on your tools.
- Paint your tools with primer, particularly if they are rusty, because it enables the paint to last longer in harsh weather.
- Paint your tools with colored top coat.
- Allow to dry.
- Hang.
This project took me less than a half-day to do and I also painted several clay pots to coordinate the colors a bit in the garden.
How fun and easy was that? Love it!
Make a difference for the world by being more sustainable – when you have something old you might throw out in the landfill, stop and think of a creative idea that will allow you to reuse it.

What a great way to dress up some old finds. You picked the perfect colors too!
Your Green Garden always inspires!
I like how your pots on the table and elsewhere match your tools! But those tools really grabbed my attention when I stepped into your backyard! Love it!
So cute! I love this idea. I should do that with a few things around here in my garden to brighten it up!

Nice idea. Great pics. I'm having fun as well browsing the second hand stores for good finds. I'll never look at an old shovel the same again!
