Creative and Ornamental Vegetable Garden Ideas
Ornamental vegetable garden
Planning a garden? Being sick to death of winter, we northern gardeners are fantasizing to the extreme about what we might plant. This year my plan is to build a simple ornamental vegetable garden that will knock your socks off AND it will be so easy anyone can plant it.
The above photo was snapped last May at the Chicago Botanic Garden; a very inspiring vegetable garden indeed. Note the pansy towers are interspersed with parsley. WOW! What an impact, although I am still trying to figure out how I can make the giant parsley towers work in my front lawn…
What are your plans for creative veggie gardening this year?

Shawna, I have a very small raised bed vegetable garden. After having some very large veggie gardens, I really have to plan carefully to fit everything I want into a small space.
I will begin at the end of this month by planting various lettuces, spinach, radishes, onion sets and onion seeds for later harvesting.
When the time arrives I will interplant cucumber seeds, tomato and pepper plants. I used to plant everything that interested me, but now I only plant what I know we will eat. I always interplant parsley and basil like decorations with some marigolds and zinnias on the edges.
Wow, sounds like a lot for a small garden! I also do a planter of herbs which I set on the raised bed in the corner.
