Book Review: Best Garden Books For New Gardeners
Book recommendations
New to gardening? I have two good book recommendations that are easy to read and make common sense gardening suggestions; Beginner’s Illustrated Guide to Gardening and The Complete Idiot’s Guide to Small-Space Gardening. Both books have great illustrations, speak in basic terms, and show super-easy growing techniques.
Beginner’s Illustrated Guide to Gardening by Katie Elzer-Peters – In this book, beginner’s can learn how to plaint containers, tie stakes, grow basic plants and much more. Katie demystifies the trick to reading seed packets, plant labels, fertilizer labels, and zone maps.
The Complete Idiot’s Guide to Small-Space Gardening by Chris McLaughlin – This is a great book for beginners and experienced gardeners alike because it focuses on getting started in a small space. Chris shows that gardens do not have to be huge, they can be simple, common sense places where you can reap a bounty of both beauty and edibles.

I was wondering if you knew what kind of plants are good for heavily shaded gardens? we have a tiny tiny city garden, but it is surrounded by big oak trees which i suspect are sucking the life out of everything, couple that with it not getting an ounce of sun and me being a complete novice, i've no idea what to plant in there, everything from last year died.
