Dunkin Donuts A Cup of Coffee Holiday

When I began my anti-inflammatory diet, 20 weeks ago, I reduced my caffeine intake significantly. I also went on a no dairy, no sugar, low gluten diet which has helped reduce my osteoarthritis pain considerably. A cup of coffee or tea is still in my life, but on a smaller scale. One of the things I truly miss is a cup of coffee drowned in flavored artificial creamer. Mysterious ingredients are a part of most artificial creamers – sugar, sodium, corn syrup, food coloring, and trans fats. What I want for a holiday treat is flavor without all the sugary additives. Fun flavor. Delicious flavor. Savor the flavor type of flavor, you know?

When Dunkin’ Donuts sent me a note asking me to write a blog post for their #DunkinToTheRescue campaign I researched the ingredients listed in their flavored coffees to see if they added anything like corn syrup or otherwise squirrely to their coffee. Dunkin’ Donuts White Chocolate Peppermint Ground Coffee ingredients: coffee, natural and artificial flavor. That’s it. Compared to the long list of ingredients on creamers, perhaps flavored coffee is the solution?

I nabbed two bags of Dunkin’ Donuts White Chocolate Peppermint coffee from Walmart – they had a variety of flavors, roasts, and seasonal items for all you DD fans. After making up a cup to test my hypothesis – it was delicious – I decided to pack my second bag of coffee in my luggage (below) as a perfect gift idea for my holiday trip to Rome, Italy. My daughter is teaching English in Italy for a year and I get to visit her for a few weeks in December; I know she will like a little bit of DD holiday gift-giving love from across the pond.

Remember that DD coffee can be the gift that keeps on giving – when you finish a cup of coffee or two toss those coffee grounds in to your compost bin (see right) – coffee grounds are a great garden amendment for your soil!
