An amazing Victorian Walled Kitchen Garden is a two and a half-acre garden set in the grounds of the Phoenix Park in Dublin, Ireland. It is truly one of the most beautiful kitchen gardens I have ever seen and is used as both an educational tool and for food for the local community.

Above is a video tour highlighting a few ideas and tips in the garden – it was truly overwhelming in size – functioning almost as a mini-farm. Originally, this walled garden was a working part of Ashtown Castle. Several years ago, organizers of the Bloom event in Ireland (www.bloominthepark.com), helped get the property kicked off on a restoration, and it has been a working garden ever since.

This garden, alone, is worth the visit to Ireland’s Bloom event because it is tremendously sustainable; emphasizing locally grown and organic as a healthy food alternative for the people of Dublin. Bloom 2010 set its show gardens immediately next to this magnificent kitchen plant display, allowing the 50,000 + attendees to wander through and learn more about the fresh herbs, fruits, and vegetables planted there.

Below are photos of some amazing ideas contained within the walled space; gorgeous floral scenes, terracotta cloches, trained pea fences, and newly sprouting veggies. Simply an inspiration!
