Shawna Coronado on the Home Depot Stage at the Chicago Flower and Garden Show 2013

This year the Chicago Flower and Garden Show is a breath of fresh air in a cold, dank, dark, gray, winter. There is nothing more exciting than getting out to smell some fresh hyacinths and learn about the latest garden and green trends. Sustainable ideas are predominate in the show – there are several green roofs on display and lots of discussion about reusing and recycling in design.

Below you see a few photos of creative design ideas at the show. My favorite exhibit at the show is The Peterson Garden Project display. Fantastic sustainable ideas are incorporated into the garden. LaManda Joy is a great garden friend who runs The Yarden blog and is intimately involved with The Peterson Garden Project in Chicago. She is promoting the concept of “Voicing Your Victory”, which connects the relevance of Victory Gardening in modern times.

While at the show I will be speaking on The Home Depot Stage. I was there yesterday and will also be on the stage at 2:00 PM and 4:00 PM today (3/13), and 2:00 PM tomorrow (3/14) teaching container planting. I am demonstrating how you can plant Bonnie Plants Herbs and Vegetables in a container that will tolerate full shade and drought. My books will be sold at the event as well. I hope to see you there if you are able to break free from the cold weather.

The Chicago Flower and Garden Show is open for garden smelling, touching, and loving until March 17, 2013 at Navy Pier in Chicago, Illinois.
