Breaking Down Garden Design Into Colorful Niches

Designing a garden can seem overwhelming, but when you break it down into little niches within the larger picture, it begins to make easy sense. For example, last season I designed a wall shovel garden with a wonderful mix of vegetables, perennials, and annuals. (Here’s the how to on that experience – LINK.)

By looking at just a small section of the garden you can see how the bold colors of the shovel brings out the colors of the other plants Swiss Chard ‘Bright Lights’, Impatiens ‘Patchwork Lavender’, and Begonia ‘Dragon Wing Red’. There are green vegetables and plants like  Lysimachia ‘Nummularia Aurea’ and the burgundy of Beet ‘Bull’s Blood’ to add interest as well.

Wall gardens are the perfect opportunity to surprise visitors in your garden with color.
