How to peel a tomato

I am a bit allergic to canned or jarred tomato sauce. My allergist tells me that tomatoes are the moldiest canned vegetable and perhaps that is the reason why – I am allergic to molds. Because of this cooking handicap, I have learned to use fresh tomatoes instead of canned in almost all my recipes.Boiling the skin off a tomato The secret for doing this is to remove the skin of the tomato before cooking and that, my friends, is super easy to do.

HOW TO PEEL OR DESKIN A TOMATO IN LESS THAN A MINUTE

  • Boil a pan of water
  • Cut a few tiny slits in the skin of a tomato with a knife
  • Toss it in the boiling water for less than a minute
  • Pull it out and put the tomato in a pan of cold water
  • Peel the skin off easily and place skin in composter

  1. You could also turn those skins into tomato powder for instant tomato paste or soup flavoring!
