Recently Fields & Lane glove company contacted me and asked me to review their gloves. In middle of winter. In the freezing cold. My gnomes are asleep for heaven’s sake! I rose to the challenge by putting the gloves through [insert super hero intro music here] - The Shawna-marator!
I figure if the gloves can survive me abusing the heck out of them, they can survive your garden too.
Fields & Lane gloves range from $18.50 to $29.50 and are made of goat leather– known for being soft, flexible and naturally water-resistant. Although all of the leather used by the company is sourced in the USA, the gloves are made in a fair trade factory in San Isidro, Costa Rica.
First I took the gloves to the track. Now, granted, the track is not normally found in your back yard, but if you are like me you drop your gloves, step on them, and run them over with your wheelbarrow regularly. So I figured running over them and stomping them into the track would be a close equivalent. I jumped up and down on each glove 300 times.
The gloves are lined with cloth and were both warm and comfortable, so I spent two hours clipping all the brush branches that are sticking out in awkward spots in my garden. In 20 degree weather. Everything was cold except my hands. ::teeth chattering::
After trimming limbs, I decided to CLIP THE GLOVES!! Because I have accidentally clipped my gloves before and felt this test was absolutely necessary. Why did I accidentally clip my gloves? Because I am an idiot. The clipper left a very tiny slit and it did not cut all the way through the leather.
Next The Shawna-marator put the gloves through damp and wet hell. Because face it – the garden is dirty, damp, and wet most of the time. This is what makes it so much fun.
I gathered wet leaves from around my rain water fountain, then to back up the concept, I ran both gloves under the water for 20 minutes. NO KIDDING – 20 MINUTES! Guess what? After they dried the goat leather was perfectly good. No stains. No stiffness. They felt wonderful and I am downright shocked that these gloves survived The Shawna-marator!
